Friday Featured Pick:
Tony Shalhoub returns as Adrian Monk in a new episodeMonk</strong> (USA, 9pm and midnight) that some are calling a "season premiere" though there was that special holiday episode and it wasn't exactly a full season that aired earlier, but whatever. It's new! That's the important thing.
Malcolm McDowell guest stars as a fashion designer; some Nicole Miller designs are featured in the episode. It is a good episode, even if I had things figured out before Monk did (that seems to happen sometimes, but then the viewer is privy to more information). Shalhoub is excellent as ever, I was particularly amused by how this episode starts: with Monk's concern for the person who inspects his shirts.
USA has just announced that there will be (at least) two more seasons of the show after this one, with 16 episodes in each. They'll also be airing reruns from previous seasons regularly. I've always liked Shalhoub and I'm pleased that this show has given him an opportunity to shine. They've got an impressive slate of guest stars lined up and next week's episode is great (Monk gets amnesia in a plot that reminded me of the movie Overboard). Laurie Metcalf (of Roseanne) guest stars next week. I'm so glad to have this show back.
And speaking of shows it's great to have back on Fridays-- how about last week's new episode of Battlestar Galactica? Awesome. I can't wait to see the conclusion of this two-part episode (Sci-Fi, 9pm and midnight Friday). The series has been better than the miniseries and it all is (of course) lightyears (or parsecs?) better than the original Battlestar Galactica series.
